I'm crocheting hats too! Never crocheted much before, though. I think your design on this is really nice with the contrasting spiral/circles. How do you do that?

I'try to explain, but don't know the proper terms in english.. I crochet the hat in the round with a stick stitch (this is not the correct term)which leaves the little v type stitches to twirl all the way down, and when I'm at the bottom and the basic hat is done, I get another color and pick up those stitches and circle all the way back up with a smaller crochet stitch (not sticks) . I just go over it and when I want more color, I go back over it.
I used to be able to crochet little squares, but I forget how.

Thanks! So you finish the hat and then go round again? Cool idea, going to have to try that. I use a very compact crochet stitch that I don't know the name of - makes stiff hats that keep their shape and protect against the wind.
